Estella-Lizarra is one of the Navarrese towns that has been part of the European Cultural Itinerary Via Charlemagne for several years.
This European itinerary is promoted by the international association Via Charlemagne-Vía Carolingia, which is composed of members from all the countries that were part of Charlemagne’s Empire and beyond. It also includes countries influenced by his cultural legacy—through artistic practices, the Carolingian Renaissance, and Carolingian legends—which expanded his renown from the north (Iceland) to the far south of Europe (Sicily), from the far west (Portugal) to the distant east (Poland, Latvia, Croatia).
Its goal is to further knowledge about the history of Charlemagne, the Carolingians, and European construction, as well as to develop educational and tourism circuits to share this legacy with as many people as possible.
